Band-Tailed Pigeons

From a painting by world renowned wildlife artist, John James Audubon, here you see a pair of Band-tailed pigeons posted from Essone in France. Conservation efforts halted the decline in numbers of these large  pigeons, but it appears they are still under pressure from over-hunting.

Pygmy Cormorants

In conjunction with WWF, in 2011 Serbia put the endangered Pygmy Cormorant(Phalacrocorax pygmeus) on stamps. These birds are now a protected species as numbers have declined due to habitat loss and polluted waters.

 The collective noun for a group of owls is a parliament.
